Hailiang Texas Copper Manufacturing Plant Project Achieves Milestone After Winter Storm

March 1, 2021

KEYWORDS:

On Feb. 15, 2021, Texas experienced a rare snowstorm with the temperature dropping to an all-time low. Construction of the Hailiang Texas Copper Manufacturing Plant resumed on Feb. 22 after the historic winter storm forced it to halt. The project team held an urgent meeting to strategize how to minimize the impact of the severe weather and was able to successfully start the first concrete slab pour for the annealing furnace on Feb. 25, marking a major milestone in the project.

As the first equipment foundation for the plant, the annealing furnace has the largest engineering volume with a total poured amount of 1,100 cubic yards. The project team completed 40 percent of the annealing furnace construction within eight hours. Expecting to complete the remaining area of the annealing furnace in early March, the project team will begin the equipment foundation work for the spinner block, double cascade, and single cascade in the coming months.

As the project owner has adopted a new production line and equipment, the construction of the plant equipment foundation is complicated and challenging. The project team established a special measurement team that actively coordinates with the subcontractors and adjusted the construction sequences and schedules in time to ensure the smooth progress of the project.

Located in Sealy, a city in Austin County in southeastern Texas that covers an area of 230,000 square meters, the project includes 40,000 square meters of plants, office space, affiliated buildings and other facilities.
