PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The goal for Dreher High School was to construct a state-of-the-art facility to house the strong academic programs for which the school is known.

Located on over 21 acres in the heart of Columbia, the school was constructed directly west of the former building location in a courtyard configuration recalling the existing structure. We met the challenge to provide ample parking, tennis courts and practice athletic fields while keeping the existing school in operation during construction. Dreher High School’s building design accepts current education curricula and philosophies while providing the flexibility to graciously accept future programs. The cafeteria opens directly into a courtyard and outdoor dining area. The modern media center anchors the second floor in the front corner of the school and includes a two-story reading room flooded with natural light. In addition to the spaciously designed, high-tech classrooms and accommodating indoor and outdoor athletic amenities, the school’s auditorium seats over 800 people and was constructed using the latest performing arts technologies. The auditorium was designed with a high level of sophistication to directly support the school’s renowned drama program.
